Stitches, San Fran, and Sunderday

Whew.  It was a busy weekend, my friends.  I didn’t catch up on any sleep, but I did have a pretty great time!  It was definitely eventful…

Um eventful as in blood and stitches.  So, if that kind of stuff freaks you out, proceed with caution because there ARE pictures of the blood and the stitches.  Yes, I’m gross and felt the need to share.  Sorry, friends!

Friday:

Woke up, had a leisurely morning, and taught a 12:15pm-1pm Cardio Chisel class. It was a fabulous one.  I got a great workout in myself and I think the class had a fun time.  SCORE.

After coming home and rinsing in a cold shower I had a quick pre-pool snack!  Peanuts, celery with two tablespoons of light cream cheese, Ezekiel 4:9 bread, and two pieces of string cheese.

My roommate and I headed down to the pool at our apartment.  Lovely.

After a few hours of sun (and lots of vitamin D and a sunburn), we headed inside, refueled the calories we’d torched while lazily lounging by the pool, and hopped in the shower to get ready for our night out.

Jake (my boyfriend, for any new readers!) is moving to L.A. in a week to pursue a career in film editing. I’m super excited for and proud of him, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a teeny bit sad.  We’ll be a six or seven hour drive away from one another, which is the farthest we’ve ever been in our four+ years together!  One good thing about his move?  A going away party!

My roommate and I picked up a friend in Sacramento and headed to Folsom (about 25 mins from Davis) for the party!  It was going fabulously… I got to see tons of friends from high school, meet some new people, dance, sing, walk on broken bottles…

Oh, yeah. That.  I stepped on a piece of broken glass.  Ouch.  The party-goers collectively MacGyvered me a tourniquet and my sweet roommate drove me home back to Davis- the dang thing wouldn’t stop bleeding.  We headed back to our apartment but the cut was still gushing, so we ended up going to the ER, where my other roommate met us.  An hour and $100+ later, I left with three stitches.  The wound has started bleeding profusely a few times since it was stitched up due to “veinous pooling” which ain’t fun.  Anyway, after cleaning up the blood from the kitchen floor, I wrapped my foot in three socks, covered it with a towel, and climbed under my white comforter.  Recipe for disaster.  Luckily, it was all good the next morning.  I eventually drifted off to (horrible) sleep…

Saturday:

After four hours of terrible sleep, I woke up.  Sore foot in tow, I headed to Safeway to get donuts + flowers for some nice girls who had helped me out the night before and muffins + bacon for my sweet roommates.  After applying some makeup and slipping into a dress, I drove down to San Francisco for the day!

A girl friend and I took a catamaran tour on the bay and then grabbed lunch!  The boat ride was freezing but awesome.  We saw Alcatraz, The Golden Gate Bridge, some jellyfish and some porpoises.  Successful, no?

The second our feet touched dry land, we started searching for a (late) lunch spot.  It was 2:30pm and all I’d eaten the morning before was a piece of toast.  Enter: Salad + Onion Rings… Totally hit the spot.

Aren’t those the most gorgeous onion rings ever? I’m pretty obsessed with that picture?  Is it weird if I frame it and put it over my fireplace mantle?

Yes, that’d be really weird because I don’t even have a fireplace.  But still.

After SF, I drove home and met up with a coupe of girl friends in Davis for a low key night.  I was freaking exhausted from the previous night, my foot hurt from all the walking in SF, and my sunburn was giving me cold sweats.  I was a hot mess.  We just hung around for a few hours until they dropped me off and I conked out.  Glorious.

Sunday:

Nothing too exciting!  I was going to teach a Pump ‘N’ Sculpt class but my cut started bleeding like crazy, so I decided it’d be best if I just found a sub.  Probably a good idea. My foot was pretty sore the whole day.  Yes, I’m a huge baby.

Also, Jake came into town!  With a “care package!” And flowers! And fooood!

Thanks, baby.  You da best!

All in all, it was a weekend for the books!  Now, I have to go finish writing a paper.  I DON’T WANNA.  My roommates and I just discussed the addition of a new day called, “Sunderday.”  The eight day of the week. Another weekend day.  You guys in? Will you sign the petition?  Awesome.

Have you ever had stitches? This was my first time getting stitches while awake (I got them during my knee surgery, obviously)

What did you do this weekend?

Sunderday: Are you on board with this?

Comments

  1. Omg love, your poor foot! At least you have a cool story to tell now. Feel better! That is so freaking cool that you saw Alcatraz. I loved the like 3 episodes of that show that actually aired. Sorry Jake is moving, but it’s not too far! :( I did long distance for 3 years and you can totally make it work. I am more than tempted to move to LA after my recent trip and you talking about someone moving is tempting me even more….

  2. Sunerday. Definitely. Long distance is hard. I’m trying to decide if it’s worth pursuing something like that myself, although I wasn’t in an official relationship to begin with so my situation is totally different. I think you can make it happen even though it’s really hard. Your foot though, holy mother! I hope it feels better soon!

  3. 1) ahhh I’m so sorry about your foot- no bueno! good thing you have good friends ;)
    2) I am totally on board- sign me up!

  4. totally on board with sunderday. I remember seeing an episode of Doug when i was little when they added Funday. I’d like that too, please! Sound like you need an extra weekend after your hectic one

  5. I had a cyst removed from my face, so I had about 7 stitches in my face and a sick black eye. I told everyone that I got into a bar fight and took a bottle to the face… but really it was less exciting than that. I hope your foot feels better quickly!

I’m totally on board with Sunderday :D

  6. I’m all in for Sunderday! Fantastic idea. Sorry about your foot! That looks so painful. Sounds like you had a really fun weekend regardless of the injury though. Those photos are awesome.

I love ordering a salad and onion rings/fries. The combination is soo good and half healthy. Double bonus:)

  7. Hope your foot heals quickly!! That stinks! I love the idea of a fresh salad and then a few crispy onion rings, yum! Sunderday sounds perfect! Sign me up!

  8. Your foot – omg!! Despite your warning, I couldn’t help but look, and now I feel a little bit queasy. Eeeee I’m so not cut out for the blood and gore stuff :? But I hope your foot feels better soon! And Sunderday – definitely. We could use a little bit of extra time off. This work stuff is for the birds.

  9. Aside from the stitches it sounds like a pretty awesome weekend! I’m a total weirdo but I love seeing gross pictures of surgery/stitches/guts/wounds so I guess its a good thing I’m going into medicine haha! I hope your foot is feeling better! Also its such a bummer that Jake is moving to LA but I guess its good that you will be in Santa Barbara this summer and can hang out with me!!!!

    • Hahaha, yes you definitely picked the perfect career for blood and gore. And YES about SB… I’ll be pretty close to him and SUPER close to you. So excited to meet!

  10. OUCH to the foot! I got stitches on my chin after falling in the shower as a kid but I don’t remember ANYTHING about it.
I’ve been to LA but not San Fran… I have been itching to get back to CA since I left and we’re planning a trip to San Diego this August- I’m already looking forward to it!
:( to Jake moving but YAY going away parties.

  11. Yikes that looks painful! Feel better soon!

  12. Dang girl! Leaving your mark all over that party, haha, glad you’re ok! PS thanks for the warning, but that was still pretty nastay!

  13. I just found your blog and love it! So sorry about your foot, it looks horrible! So neat your boyfriend is going into film editing! I hope to work in film as well!

    • Hey Taylor! Welcome! How cool that you work in film. I don’t understand any of the technological stuff, but I love eating popcorn and watching movies… Does that count for anything? ;) .

  14. GOSH so small world. In eighth grade I was on crutches for three months because I had glass slit my foot at a wedding and I never went to get stitches aka it got infected and I couldn’t walk on it. So smart for getting stitches!

  15. Ahh! Roommates to the rescue! When I had synovitis, my knee had to get an emergency drain put in my knee. They sent me home (worst hospital/doctor ever) and I was gushing blood all over my apartment. My roommate and her boyfriend CARRIED me down the stairs and out to her car while driving me back to the ER. I was so thankful for everything she did for me. Sometimes people really do surprise you! Despite your stitches, I’m glad you had a great weekend! Boyfriend brings nice gifts, too! Can’t go wrong with pizza and chocolate! And girl, PLEASE give me some of your boobs. Sorry, not sorry!

    • AH, that sounds awful! I actually had some random neighbor’s boyfriend carry me to the car, since my roommate is about four inches shorter than me… Haha! Pizza + chocolate = the way to my heart. And yes, sign me up for a boob graft. I’d love to get rid of some of them. And sharing is caring, right?

  16. Ick, you foot story gave me goosebumps and shivers! Anything that involves blood and/or injuries to the body tends me make me super lightheaded. I’m such a wimp. The only time I ever got stitches was when I had my wisdom teeth out so that doesn’t really count. AND I want those onion rings in my mouth right now but I guess I’ll just go back to drinking this bottle of juice. LAME.

    • I really only get queasy when the injury is on myself… So, needless to say, I’ve been keeping these stitches covered up with a Bandaid so I don’t have to look at them. Would you believe me if I said that your vegetable-packed juice tastes better than my crispy, flavorful, warm onion rings? No? Yeah, I wouldn’t either.

  17. Oh man, I’m so sorry about your foot! That looks so painful! My boyfriend and I have been long distance for 2 years (although its only 1.5 hours) and although I miss seeing him everyday we get to have nice long phone talks. I hope your foot heals fast!

    • Thank goodness for phones/Skype! We were about 2.5 hours away for a year while he was living in Reno, but this will be the furthest we’ve ever been. Crazy! And thank you for the get well wishes :D .

  18. Oh, goodness! What a weekend!!! How’s the foot today? I am so with you on Sunderday! I’ll bet my husband and daughter would sign that petition too!!! :) Your pictures of San Francisco are BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I’ve never been, but I would love to go someday! :)

    • The foot is MUCH better now. The swelling is down so I barely even notice it. SF is such a great city. The people there are so dang nice!!

  19. Wow! You overachiever you…you cut that foot GOOD! Hope it isn’t too painful anymore. Do you have to go back and get the stitches out or will they just dissolve?

I’ve had stitches AND staples…the staples after my c-section. That is a super fun sound to hear…the stapler cracking away and you realize it’s your flesh they are stapling together.

    • Haha, what can I say? When I do something, I go all out ;) . It’s feeling much better now, but I have to go in on Friday to get the stitches removed. Pain in the you-know-what! Staples? Youch! That freaks me out!

  20. oh my goodness I can’t believe you’re mentioning it so nonchalantly about the cut .. I would’ve been like crying hysterically lol!

  21. Loooool I love the picture of you pouting on the couch!! And sad-yet-glad to hear Jake is moving down to LA…I remember you saying it will be great for his career!

I got stitches on my scalp a few months ago after the dermatologist removed a mole.. I was a HUGE baby and complained for at least 2 weeks. But in my defense, the top of my head was a really awkward place for a wound, and it hurt every time I smiled or laughed :P

    • Such a classic picture, right? Still goin’ hard with my Solo cup ;) . Stitches on the scalp sound horrible. I’d take them on my foot over my head any day!

  22. I’m sorry to hear about your foot! How long will it take to heal? Hopefully not too long since it was only a few stitches!

  23. Ooof that looks painful! Hope you feel better soon!

  24. Holy balls!!!! I am so glad you are okay. I would totally of went and got your pretty self whatever you wanted if I lived closer… but I don’t, so thank goodness the boy did it!

p.s. cover up your boobiesss!! Look at you being a slutface, Ha Ha kidding =)

  25. Who knew something that bled so badly would only require 3 stitches!! Ouch, girlfriend!!!

As for your weekend, I am totally envious of your day in San Fran!! It is my favorite city ever and I am so hoping to visit again, soon!!

    • The doctor kept saying something about “venous pooling” since the blood took a while to clot… Ick! It actually didn’t hurt too bad, but the blood totally freaked me out!

I too love SF. I live so close, but it’s so dang expensive to get down there… $10 in tolls, $30 in parking… Ugh!
