So I was at the gym pumping out some cardio whilst watching reruns of Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami. Super classy, I know. Don’t even mention it.
During a commercial break, something somewhat traumatizing came on.
A Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup commercial. Kill me now.
Drool may have dripped on the elliptical.
And since I get weirdly obsessed with my food cravings and can’t stop thinking about them until I either (1) torture myself by compulsively looking at pictures of said craving on Pinterest, or (2) give in, I knew I had to take action.
Hence, my new creation. A Peanut Butter Cup Milkshake. With homemade peanut butter. And, of course, with no added sugar.
Making the peanut butter was ridiculously easy. You could obviously use store bought, but I’d highly recommend whirring up a batch of your own. Want to know how I did it?
1. Put peanuts into a food processor.
2. Turn the food processor on.
3. That’s it.
Seriously. Please do this.
Once you have that fresh, warm, creamy peanut butter, throw it into a no sugar added, low calorie, calcium-packed milkshake!
Peanut Butter Cup Milkshake
Serves 2
Ingredients:
1 Cup Skim Milk
3 TBSP Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
1 Banana, frozen
2 TBSP Peanut Butter (1 for the shake, 1 for topping)
1 TBSP Peanuts, chopped
1 Packet Stevia or sweetener of choice
~1/8 tsp each Guar and Xanthan Gums (if you don’t have these, just omit)
Pinch of salt
Ice
You can also add vanilla extract and/or powdered peanut butter. These things both have added sugar, though, so I didn’t.
Method:
1. Put milk, cocoa powder, banana, stevia, ice, guar gum, xanthan gum, salt, and 1 TBSP peanut butter into blender. Blend until desired consistency is reached. Add more ice or gums for thicker texture.
2. Pour milkshake into container and freeze for approximately 30 minutes.
3. Pour milkshake into 2 separate glasses. Top each glass with ½ TBSP of peanut butter and half of the peanuts.

Gahhhh! I’m reading this while on the elliptical for work! This may need to be my lunch or I’ll be craving Reese’s ALL afternoon. And no judgement on the Kardashians…. I have a secret obsession
January 22, 2013 at 12:47 pm
I think we all have a secret Kardashian obsession. And a not-so-secret Reese’s obsession.

I just had a banana, orange, strawberry/blueberry/raspberry, kale, flax seed, vegan protein smoothie! And Jordan even had some…knowing full well there was kale in it. I should throw some home made peanut butter in there! Yum…
January 22, 2013 at 12:48 pm
Yum! I love adding spinach to my smoothies but I’ve never added kale. I don’t know if my blender would be powerful enough to break it down!
January 22, 2013 at 9:40 am
I think it is time I invest in a food processor!!! This looks flipping amazing!!!
January 22, 2013 at 12:49 pm
My food processor’s base is also my blender’s base. It isn’t even that powerful and the peanut butter only took 4 or 5 minutes!
January 22, 2013 at 10:42 am
I totally have the same blender/food processor as you!!! My parents got it for me for my birthday this year
This looks so good! Love how healthy it is too. Frozen bananas are my favorite in smoothies!
January 22, 2013 at 12:49 pm
Haha, my mom got it from a wellness even at her work! I actually love it. Frozen bananas are THE BEST in smoothies. Unbeatable.
January 22, 2013 at 10:43 am
ooo sounds delicious! I have a food processor but have yet to make my own peanut butter– yours look soooo creamy!
January 22, 2013 at 12:50 pm
Do it! It is the easiest thing ever. It only took a few minutes, and it would be soo fun to customize and add fun flavors!
January 22, 2013 at 6:10 pm
I think I’ll try it out this weekend!

January 22, 2013 at 6:33 pm
Awesome recipe! I love homemade peanut butter. It tastes SO good and is so inexpensive : ) I don’t know why I forget to add it to smoothies. I bet it would be great in a green smoothie too!
January 23, 2013 at 10:02 am
It totally would be!
January 22, 2013 at 6:35 pm
I am fairly certain that there is nothing better than peanut butter. This milkshake is the perfect recipe to celebrate National Peanut Butter day this coming Thursday
.
January 23, 2013 at 10:03 am
Agreed. And I had no idea Thursday was Nation PB Day!! Too bad I’ve already eaten ALL of the peanut butter that I made. Dang!
January 23, 2013 at 7:03 pm
You better make some more!
January 22, 2013 at 7:23 pm
YUM! I pretty sure I would need something this amazing to satiate my craving for Reese’s PB cups. Homemade PB? definitely the best way to go!
January 23, 2013 at 10:03 am
Agreed. It is so impossibly creamy. And I’m dying to test out fun variations.
January 23, 2013 at 12:34 am
Oh this just sound AMAZING!!!! Thanks for reminding me that I need to pick up a bag of peanuts tomorrow to try making my own pb.
January 23, 2013 at 10:04 am
It’s the easiest thing ever! It only took a few minutes for the food processor to take it from peanuts to super-creamy butter!
January 23, 2013 at 12:23 pm
Woah that looks so good, and your pictures are great! Definitely craving a Reeses now too
January 28, 2013 at 5:09 pm
Nothing compares to an actual Reese’s cup, but this comes pretty dang close!
March 14, 2013 at 11:18 am
yummy!! Is it crazy that I actually get mad at the scrumptious food commercials that come on at the gym? And I’m just listening to my music; not even watching tv. But you can’t help but look at the 50 billion tv screens staring at you, especially when that kind of commercial comes on. !!
March 14, 2013 at 2:57 pm
Haha, I feel you on that one!
