Sharing every bit and bite of this delicious life

Winter 2013 Schedule

Another quarter.  One week down, ten to go.

That’s been my mantra lately. Just ten weeks left.  Only ten more weeks.  You’ve got this, Carly.  Don’t die of stress before spring break.  Keep breathing.  In and out, in and out, in and out.  Ten weeks isn’t really that long!  That’s, like, the same as Kim K.’s marriage.  OMG, has it been ten weeks yet?!  What?!  It’s only been 2 days?!  Who is in charge of the clocks around here?!

Draaammmma queen.  Jeez.

Annnnyway.  Who wants to know how/where I’ll be spending my these next couple of months?

Cricket. Cricket.

Too bad! I’m telling you anyway.

First of all, I’m going to tell you about my classes this quarter.  I realize this will probably be super boring to many of you, so I’ve scattered random pictures of food and such throughout this post. Thanks for letting me share!  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: you guys are the best!

Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior 10; Elementary Human Physiology; 3 units

This intro class is a lower division requirement for my major (Human Development).  Basically, this class will detail how the human body works in a pretty simple way.  The entire grade in this class is based off of exams, which I love.  It’s always nice to have a class with no homework or papers, even if it does mean I have to take an exam every 2 weeks.  The professor for this course is pretty engaging and the class is short.  So far, so good!

Human Development 100A; Infancy and Early Adolescence; 4 units

This course examines how genetics and environment influence the development of children from prenatal through six years.  We also have to observe preschool-aged children and write lab reports (SO FUN).  I had this professor last quarter for HDE 100C (Adulthood and aging) and she’s such a sweetheart.  Though this class can feel long at times since it’s a two hour lecture, the information is truly interesting.  Who doesn’t love learning about babies?

Human Development 160; Social Aspects of Aging; 4 units

I love this class.  It is far and away my favorite course this quarter.  Our intelligent and hilarious professor teaches us about the social implications of aging: ageism, Social Security, the pressure of the Baby Boomers, and the possible problems related to longer life expectancies.  I’m so excited about this course.  Even though it doesn’t end until 8pm, I somehow manage to stay awake and alert throughout the entire thing.  (Hah- talk to me in three weeks.)

Exercise Biology 102; Motor Learning and Sports Psychology; 4 units

This course scares me a little bit.  I don’t play sports.  I don’t like biology.  The professor is kind of intimidating.  But that’s okay!  I’m hoping to learn some tips and tricks for optimal performance, whether it be in the gym or on an exam.  We also get to do a practical lab sometime next month, which is something I don’t often get to do.

Nutrition 11; Current Topics in Nutrition; 2 units

Self-explanatory?  This class meets just once a week since it’s a 2-unit course.  We don’t really learn about diet or which foods are best for what.  Instead, we read scientific journals in order to educate ourselves current controversies in the world of nutrition.  It’s pretty fascinating, actually!  I can’t say I love reading scientific journals, but the information is straight from the source which is always cool. I’ll have to remember to share some of the things I learn!

Pretty much all of the breaks/gaps between classes are spent in the library either studying, writing papers, or doing homework.  My goal this quarter is to get the majority of my schoolwork done on campus so I can relax while I’m at my apartment.  I’ve also been finding time to work out almost every day, which is fab!

I’ve also been packing loads of food to eat during my long days!  I usually end up bringing either breakfast/lunch or lunch/dinner.  LOTS of Tupperware has been used.

Again, thanks for letting me share!  I like having these posts to come back and look at later!  I’ll be back tomorrow with my New Year’s Resolution check-in.

Happy lastdayoftheweekend, which is what I’m now officially calling Sunday.

What was/is your favorite course in either high school or college?

  1. Wow you have a packed schedule!! I’m impressed! I’ve been dying to take a nutrition class. They sound like something I’d really be interested in but I’m not sure. I’ll have to take one before I decide to totally pursue it. Also, with teaches gym classes, did you have to sign up for a a ton of courses? I’m kind of curious about it because I think it’s something I’d really enjoy!

    • It’s going to be a bussssy 2 and a half months! The nutrition class will be fun, but I do wish I could take a class that’s more about properties of food rather than current topics in nutrition. I just got my Primary Group Exercise Instructor certification through AFAA! I studied on my own and then went to a 1-day workshop where we did a few super simple practical exams and a 100-question written exam. No courses necessary!

  2. Way to go Car Car!! Sooooo proud of you!

  3. I’m already starting the countdown, only 9 more weeks! We can make it girl! And you are taking some classes that seriously sound interesting. Hard, but those type of classes that challenge you yet are fascinating are my favorites. I’m just curious what is in the box that has highly addicting contents?
